Water fluoridation is the practice of adding industrial grade fluoride chemicals to water, for the sole purpose of preventing tooth decay. 74% of water in the United States is fluoridated, including Livonia, which is more than the rest of the world combined. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention says numerous studies and comprehensive reviews continually recognize water fluoridation as an effective way to prevent tooth decay-naming it one of the Top Ten public health achievements of the 20th Century. According every dentist that I interviewed in our city, water fluoridation is wonderful and protects teeth from decay. Local dentist Steven Shuster claims, "Historically, much less decay occurs as a result of fluoridated water." He cites University of Michigan studies as proof. On the opposite spectrum, Chiropractors abhor the practice of water fluoridation. Dr. Sharonrose Semelak states, "We do not need fluoride to function, so why are we putting it in our bodies?" Dr. Robert Shaner takes it a step further, "Fluoride is a poison that would be illegal to dump in the water to begin with!" The FDA classifies fluoride as a drug. As such, adding fluoride to water for the purpose of preventing tooth decay is a form of medical treatment. According to Dr. Arvid Carlsson, a recipient of the Nobel Prize, "This violates the Nuremberg Code for human experimentation, as well as violates the individual's right to informed consent to medication. The municipality cannot control the dose to the patient or each individual's response to fluoride. It is unethical and ignores the fact that some people are more vulnerable to fluoride's toxic effects than others." Most developed nations, including Japan, do not fluoridate water. European nations vehemently reject the practice. In their view, the public water supply is not an appropriate place to be adding drugs. The CDC revealed that fluoridated water causes enamel fluorosis in children eight and younger, an increased chance of pits in tooth enamel, along with a wide range of cosmetic effects to teeth. Also admitted by the CDC, is that the percentage of children with dental fluorosis increases, as the fluoride concentration increases. Dr. Gary Null PhD says, "We would not purposely add arsenic or lead to the water supply, yet we add fluoride. The fact is, fluoride is more toxic than lead and slightly less toxic than arsenic. It is causing millions of children to develop dental fluorosis, a discoloration of teeth caused by excessive fluoride intake." Professionals at find many problems caused by fluoride: decreased IQ, thyroid damage, bone disease, iodine deficiency, arthritis, goiter, brain damage, bone cancer, pineal gland damage, and reproductive problems. Dr. Ben Burke, former biochemist at the National Cancer Institute states, "More than 50,000 Americans are dying of cancer caused by fluoridated drinking water." Fluoride's main benefit comes from topical contact with teeth and not from ingestion. Even the Center For Disease Control Oral Health Division has acknowledged this as a fact. I found not a single randomized controlled trial to demonstrate water fluoridation's effectiveness or safety. The World Health Organization confessed finding no difference in tooth decay between the minority of western nations using fluoridated water and the majority that does not. My investigation has found that the danger of fluoridating water is a FACT, not a conspiracy.

Your "investigation" obviously amounted to nothing more than lazily perusing antifluoridationist websites, as do the vast majority of antifluoridationists, then regurgitating the nonsense spoon-fed to you from these sites. If you wish to indeed perform legitimate research on this issue, the websites of the CDC, the EPA, the American Dental Association, the World Health Organization, the National Sanitary Foundation, and the American Academy of Pediatrics, each has a wealth of accurate information on fluoridation readily avilable to anyone. It really doesn't matter what the institutions claim on the matter. And for a dentist to claim expertise on thos issue is a silly joke. Fact is, only tyrants and fascists would find it acceptable for a state to medicate a population through municipal water supplies. It's simply ridiculous.
